UPDATE 11 August 2008:

Finalised ranking of journals in Statistics (FoR code 0104) in preparation for ERA (Excellence in Research Australia) exercise

The finalised list of journal rankings, revised after comments from the probability and statistics community, is given here. The list has been conveyed to Professor Hyam Rubinstein, Chair of the National Committee for the Mathematical Sciences, for submission to the ARC.

29 July 2008

Proposed ranking

The list distributes journals among four tiers (A* — top 5%; A — next 15%; B — next 30%; and C — lower 50%). (link to the proposed document has been removed)

The areas covered by FoR code 0104 overlap with those addressed by FoR 0102 (Applied Mathematics), and it is likely that the Annals of Applied Probability will be transferred to that FoR, in tier A*. Hopefully this will be determined by the end of July 2008. A small number of additional journals are still to be added to tier C.

This ranking is only tentative, although it will shortly be finalised. Any comments or suggestions should, in order to receive attention, be sent to Peter Hall (halpstat@ms.unimelb.edu.au) and/or John Robinson (johnr@maths.usyd.edu.au) by 5th August 2008.
