EDITORIAL

This issue contains the report of the 39th Annual Meeting of the Society which was held during 3-7 July in Hobart. So it is timely to begin looking forward to the 40th Annual Meeting which will be held at Flinders University of South Australia 7-12 July 1996. The Director of the meeting is Associate Professor Raj Huilgol (raj@ist.flinders.edu.au) and a fine list of invited speakers has been arranged already. Speakers will include:

In the Australian Mathematical Society News section of this issue, there is a call for applications for grants for special interest meetings of mathematicians. The Society is keen to continue its support for once-off meetings on specialised topics around Australia. There is no President's column in this issue because the President has been travelling overseas lately.
