Professor C.C. Heyde and Professor P.G. Hall share the inaugural Hannan Medal awarded by the Australian Academy of Sciences.
Dr Peter Taylor, Head of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, has been promoted to Associate Professor. Also, Dr Taylor has been made a Fellow of the Institute of Combinatorics and its Applications.
Ms Alice Richardson has been appointed Lecturer B in Statistics.
Ms Mary Hewitt has been appointed Associate Lecturer A in Mathematics.
Dr Ian Lisle, currently at Griffith University, has been appointed as Lecturer B from 1 July 1995. His interests include geometry, differential equations and numerical modelling.
Dr Dane Flannery, currently at RMIT, has been appointed as Lecturer B for two years from 1 July 1995. His interests are in algebra.
Dr Natashia Boland has been appointed as Lecturer (Level B); her research interests are in operations research.
Ms Christine Mangelsdorf has been appointed as Lecturer (Level A); her research interests are in colloid science, especially electrokinetic theory.
Associate Professor Kathy Horadam has been promoted to Professor.
Dr Bill Blythe has been promoted to Associate Professor.
Dr Liam Healy has been promoted to Associate Professor.
Dr Jusif Kovacevic has had his position as Lecturer made permanent.

Professor Ted Buchwald has been appointed as Head of the Department of Mathematics and Computing Science at USP from 29 January 1995.
Professor Takashi Soma of the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research, Japan, has been appointed as Visiting Professor to the Department for three years commencing in April 1995. Professor Soma is on a research cooperation program sponsored by the Research Development Corporation of Japan (JRDC).
