EDITORIAL

Summer is usually a time for relaxing, putting your feet up and getting away from it all - preferably in some holiday spot. While mathematicians can relax as well as anyone, it interesting to note the development of mathematical activities in the Australian summer over recent years.

In the coming months, Australian mathematicians have the opportunity to attend the following events which cover a broad spectrum of pure and applied mathematics:

• Workshop on Algebra, Geometry and Toplogy, 22 Jan. - 9 Feb., at ANU
• MISG 1996, 29 Jan. - 2 Feb. 1996 at University of Melbourne
• ANZIAM 96, 4-8 Feb. in New Zealand
• a one-day conference to mark the retirement of John Pollard, 29 Feb. at ANSTO in Sydney.
