The death of Emeritus Professor Evan James Williams of the University of Melbourne, a longstanding member of the Australian Mathematical Society, has been announced in the Melbourne Age today, January 29th.

Cheryl Praeger has just been named 2009 WA Scientist of the Year.

This year's Clay–Mahler Lecturer is Fields Medallist Terence Tao. Terry and two Clay lecturers, Mohammed Abouzaid and Danny Calegari, will be in Australia from mid-August till early October. They will travel to a selection of Australian universities to give talks, as well as attending the AustMS annual meeting in Adelaide.
