Department of Education and Training, NSW
Guaranteed Employment
Mathematics or Science

The NSW Department of Education and Training is offering one-year scholarships for students to complete in 2001 the final year of a preservice or postgraduate teacher education program or for graduates willing to undertake a one-year Graduate Diploma in Education program.

The scholarships lead to employment as Mathematics or Science teachers in New South Wales government schools.

Scholarship recipients will agree to teach for three years in Sydney's western or south-western suburbs or in rural and isolated areas of New South Wales.

2001 HECS fees paid plus a training grant.

The scholarship provides:

  • full payment of HECS fees for the 2001 academic year; and
  • a one-off $1000 training grant towards incidental costs, including textbooks and student administration fees.

You are eligible to apply for a scholarship if you:

  • are currently in the final year of a four year preservice teacher education program with a specialisation in Mathematics or Science; or
  • have a suitable undergraduate degree and are currently in the final year of a two year postgraduate teacher education program with a specialisation in Mathematics or Science; or
  • have a suitable undergraduate degree and are currently completing or are willing to complete a Graduate Diploma in Education program with a specialisation in either Mathematics or Science.

If you haven't already sought admission to a Graduate Diploma in Education program for 2001 you will need to do so as soon as possible by contacting a higher education institution offering these programs.

Successful applicants will need to sign a Deed of Agreement with the NSW Department of Education and Training committing them to successfully completing the teacher education program; accepting a teaching appointment to a school in the western or south-western suburbs of Sydney or rural and isolated areas of NSW and remaining in that teaching appointment for a minimum period of three years. All applicants will also need to sign a Prohibited Employment Declaration and Consent to Employment Screening.
