National Security Big Data PhD Scholarships

We are offering a limited number of PhD scholarships to highly motivated people with a passion for solving the Big Data challenges faced by the Defence and National Security Industry.
Data to Decisions Cooperative Research Centre (D2D CRC) brings together government, industry and researchers to develop Big Data capability, focusing on the defence and national security industry. We are seeking people to undertake innovative research on complex, real world challenges across a range of areas including predictive analytics, knowledge graph creation, natural language processing, image and video understanding, visualisation and open source data. Financially, the scholarship provides $30,000 tax free annually for three years, incorporating an allowance for travel, materials and resources. When combined with an APA, this equates to $57,000 per annum, offering the opportunity to immerse yourself in your research topic with strong financial support. The Scholarships also incorporate a significant focus on professional development opportunities including:
- placements with an industry/agency partner
- an applied research exchange program;
- attending the exciting D2D CRC annual conference;
- workshops aimed at enhancing your entrepreneurial and leadership skills;
- fun events and opportunities to meet other students from across Australia and the world.
You will need a strong academic record with a Masters or Honours first class in data science, mathematics, statistics or a related field. Your sound interpersonal and problem solving skills will be critical to working with a range of stakeholders on the complex challenges you will encounter, as is your ability to translate your research into reality. You must also be willing and eligible to hold (or currently hold) an Australian Government issued Security Clearance to participate in the placements (which includes being a current Australian Citizen).
