The WH Bryan Mining
Geology Research Centre (BRC) is a world R&D leader in mining geostatistics
and mine planning. It is a member of the Sustainable Minerals Institute
at one of the largest mining and mineral research centres in the world,
The University of Queensland. The
BRC provides state of the art facilities and a stimulating, high tech
and professional environment in which to work. It conducts advanced
applied research, industry and postgraduate training in geostatistics,
resource modelling, and optimisation in mine design and planning. The
Centre is self-funded with substantial links to industry; BRC postgraduate
students gain valuable national and international industry contacts
which secures their future upon completion of their studies.
In developing a
new generation of risk based mine design and planning technologies,
the BRC, with industry partners AngloGold, BHP Billiton, MIM and Rio
Tinto are conducting a research program in the broader area of Quantitative
risk analysis in orebody modelling, mine design and production scheduling.
We are seeking qualified
PhD/MPhil candidates with 1st class honours in Mining Engineering or
Earth Sciences or Mathematics and strong computing skills to undertake
research.
The successful applicant
will be awarded a tax-free stipend package worth up to $27,000pa. Application
date is open but candidates start in February each year. Applicants
must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
