Mining Postgraduate Scholarships
University of Sydney
$25,000
Joint research projects with the Australian Centre for Field
Robotics and the School of Geosciences, University of Sydney.
CRC Mining, the Australian Centre
for Field Robotics (ACFR) and the School of Geosciences invite
students interested in a studying a PhD in science and/or
engineering in the area of Data Fusion for Mine Planning to apply
for a CRC Mining postgraduate Scholarship. The project will
involve the application of cutting edge techniques spanning data
fusion, information theory and statistical machine learning to the
disparate data sources encountered in the mining industry.
CRC Mining is one of approximately
70 Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs), with a vision to provide
the research and development drive for Australia to become the
world leader in the introduction and exploitation of innovative
mining systems.
There are two scholarships available
for postgraduate research projects, commencing October 2005 or
January 2006, in geophysical, geological and mine planning data
fusion. This is commercially viable research to tackle the
technical challenges facing the CRC’s industry members.
Applicants should have a first class
honours degree in engineering, applied mathematics, physics,
computer science, geophysics or a related discipline. A background
in statistics, machine learning and a working knowledge of
exploration/mining Geophysical data is highly desirable.
The scholarships start from $25,000
p.a. with an increase to $26,000 after successful completion of a
