Over the next five
years (2004-2008), The School of Population Health and the School of
Human Movement Studies at the University of Queensland, in partnership
with the School of Public Health at the University of Sydney, will be
carrying out a consolidated program of research studies and advanced-level
research training in physical activity and population health. The research
program is led by Professor Neville Owen, Professor Wendy Brown and
Professor Adrian Bauman and involves a network of national and international
collaborators from other research-intensive universities and research
institutes.
The main focus of
the research program will be on interventions to influence physical
activity behaviours and health outcomes. It will emphasise rigorous
approaches to population measurement and monitoring; to understanding
the determinants of physical activity; the development and testing of
relevant conceptual models; and, to the implementation and evaluation
of innovative public health interventions. For industry-linked grants,
project development, implementation and evaluation will be conducted
in close liaison with clients, within a framework of rigorous design
and evaluation.
Successful applicants
will have a PhD in exercise science, psychology, epidemiology, biostatistics
or other relevant health, biological or social-science disciplines;
publications in peer reviewed journals; and, a demonstrated ability
to contribute to the research program.
These are full-time,
three to five-year fixed term appointments at Research Fellow (Research
Academic Level B) or Senior Research Fellow (Research Academic Level
C). Up to four positions will be available. The remuneration package
will be in the range of $67,859 to $80,582 per annum for (Level B);
or $83,127 to $95,850 per annum for (Level C), including employer superannuation
contributions of 17%. The level of the appointments will be dependent
upon qualifications and experience.
