CSIRO Mathematical and Information Sciences has research projects and applications designed to provide information for improved assessment and management of Australia’s natural resources. The emphasis is on methods for measuring and monitoring changes in terrestrial and marine environments.

We are currently seeking a Research Scientist or Senior Research Scientist to develop and use statistical models for spatial and temporal data analysis with an environmental focus.

Your responsibilities will include initiating, managing and monitoring new environmental measurement and assessment projects. In addition you will supervise the implementation and testing of prototype models and initiate case studies in applying models to environmental monitoring problems. There is an expectation that you will
communicate research results through scientific publications and conferences as well as supervising and mentoring other staff members.

The successful applicant should have a PhD in either mathematics or statistics, combined with a strong background in multivariate analysis and the ability to develop new statistical models and algorithms.
