Community-Based, Action Research Work Opportunities
The University of Queensland
Brisbane Qld
The University
of Queensland's Community Service & Research Centre (CSRC) is urgently
seeking expressions of interest from community-based, action researchers
committed to undertaking collaborative, team-oriented research on a
casual, part-time, or full-time basis.
With the CSRC's
research budget now over $1M and an increasing profile of the Centre's
research activity, we are currently unable to satisfactorily respond
to the frequent requests for undertaking a variety of local, statewide,
and national community-based research (CBR) projects. In particular,
the Queensland Department of Families' requirement for action
research to be built into any proposal seeking funding for its new multi-million
dollar early intervention initiatives, has seen many prospective applicants
approach the CSRC for direct assistance and an intention to actively
include the CSRC in its proposal.
The community-based
emphasis in the Centre's research is a deliberate and purposeful approach
to not only embedding community participation in all the Centre's research
projects but also ensuring that the CSRC is strategically addressing
issues of disadvantage in communities. Core work of the CSRC has involved
grassroots research projects designed to assess needs and map existing
resources and services, to identify gaps in service delivery, and develop
strategies to address community concerns. In practice, this has seen
a number of core research areas emerge including place
management, social capital analysis, human service planning and evaluation,
community capacity building measurement and modelling, learning communities,
youth research, community informatics, and culture and diversity studies.
Although the Centre is based in The University of Queensland's Faculty
of Social and Behavioural Sciences, our work is not confined to these
disciplines and straddles many multidisciplinary areas. CBR project
work is being carried out through the Centre at a number of levels,
including full-time CSRC-based researchers, postgraduate and graduate
student researchers, Faculty staff, and external consultants eager to
apply these methodologies.
