FIXED TERM: - Salary: A$55,763 - A$59,637 per year (plus up to 17% employer superannuation plus leave loading.) This salary includes a superable UNSW academic loading of A$3,000 per annum payable to all academic staff (pro rata for fractional academic staff).

A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available in the area of multi-criterion analysis and design of multi-input multi-output (MIMO) digital communication channels, on an Australian Research Council funded project. The work will be supervised by Dr. Tuan D. Hoang (UNSW), Dr. Ba-Ngu Vo (University of Melbourne) and A/Prof V. Jeyakumar (UNSW).

We seek a researcher with a solid background in communications and signal processing. The appointee will be motivated by the desire to investigate efficient computational methods for solving problems in telecommunications. The appointee will be responsible for developing new designs of communication channels, and will need to engage in the communication of results to the scientific community. Contributions to supervising PhD students are also expected.

Essential criteria: a PhD or equivalent in relevant areas such as engineering/computer science/mathematics; demonstrated knowledge of communication systems and signal processing; strong research records with publications in reputed international journals; good communication and interpersonal skills; an understanding of equity and diversity policies and programs; knowledge of OHS responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant OHS training.

Desirable criteria: demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for applying mathematics to engineering problems; experience or willingness to supervise postgraduate students.

This is a fixed term position for up to three years from March 2005, with the first term half at UNSW and the second term half at the university of Melbourne.
