New Research Positions in Interdisciplinary Marine Science
EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
The Antarctic Climate & Ecosystems Cooperative Research Centre (ACE
CRC) is seeking enthusiastic and self-motivated scientists to join an
interdisciplinary team undertaking original and innovative research
in collaboration with other Australian and international researchers.
Prior experience in Southern Ocean studies would be advantageous but
is by no means a pre-requisite. An interest in working across disciplines
to integrate multidisciplinary research is desirable.
This position will be fully funded for up to five years, with no teaching
requirements. A mix of postdoctoral fellowships, research scientist
and senior research scientist positions will be offered subject to candidate
qualifications and the overall goal of building a strong collaborative
group. Total annual remuneration packages consisting of salary plus
17% superannuation will range from A$57,721 up to A$90,311. Starting
dates will be negotiable, preferably within the period 1 May 2004 to
1 January 2005.
If you are a professional scientist or a PhD student nearing completion,
and are interested in the challenges of working in Antarctica and the
Southern Ocean send your curriculum vitae and a one to two page statement
of research experience and interests in electronic form to our search
chair, Dr Steve Nicol, Antarctic Marine Ecosystem Program Leader, ACE
CRC, Steve.Nicol@aad.gov.au.
Our search is ongoing and we will begin evaluating candidates in early
February 2004, and will be in touch for more information as required.
One of the research directions you could pursue is listed below.
MODELLING MARINE BIOGEOCHEMICAL PROCESSES
Objective: Develop models of biogeochemical interactions that affect
Southern Ocean planktonic and sea-ice hosted ecosystems; including productivity,
particulate carbon export and air-sea exchange of climatically active
components (CO2, trace gases, aerosols, etc.) and the response of these
processes to climate variability and change.
