The University of Auckland Business School seeks to appoint a Professor of Finance in the Department of Accounting and Finance to provide leadership in research and teaching. The successful candidate for this position will have a distinguished record of research, teaching and supervision of graduate students, and have demonstrated leadership capability.

Position Overview The University of Auckland Business School seeks to appoint a Professor of Finance in the Department of Accounting and Finance to provide leadership in research and teaching. The successful candidate for this position will have a distinguished record of research, teaching and supervision of graduate students, and have demonstrated leadership capability.

Recently the department has been a major contributor to the highly successful launch of the School’s second undergraduate degree - the Bachelor of Business and Information Management (BBIM). The BBIM is an innovative degree for the 21st Century that integrates a core of business disciplines with majors in information management and either accounting or marketing. This exciting new degree aims at providing students with an excellent understanding of how information management, including e-Commerce and internet applications, can be used to help run and develop a business.

The Department has a strong research orientation, with staff publishing in highly rated international journals. Some are on the editorial boards of international journals. The Department also has a vibrant programme for visitors, which includes many well recognised international academics. Staff members are involved in joint research projects with other School faculty, and with faculty at other Universities. Scope exists to develop further research groups within the Department, and to advance interdisciplinary research and teaching in such areas as governance structures, performance appraisal, regulation, and public sector reform.

The present establishment of the Department of Accounting and Finance, including equivalent part time personnel, is thirty-nine. This currently includes five Professors, two Associate Professors, fifteen Senior Lecturers, twelve Lecturers and five Tutors. The interests of staff span most areas of Finance, Financial Accounting, and Management Accounting.

We wish to hire a Professor in Finance. This is part of a general recruitment program, where we are also seeking to appoint Professors in Financial Accounting and Management Accounting. Candidates with interests in any aspects of Finance are invited to apply although our preference will be for a candidate with interest in a mainstream area.
