The Department of
Computer Science is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral or Research Fellow
to work with Professor Brendan McKay on an project funded by the Australian
Research Council, investigating the practical and theoretical aspects
of structure enumeration. The project is broadly defined as the en-masse
study of combinatorial objects, involving both computational and theoretical
studies. The computational aspects especially involve the development
of methods to exhaustively list the objects in some class, plus the
computational investigation of their properties. The theoretical aspects
include the enumeration, especially asymptotic enumeration, of classes
of objects as well as the study of the properties of random objects.
For appointment,
candidates should have a strong mathematical background and possess
a PhD in either mathematics or computer science. Extensive knowledge
of at least one area of discrete mathematics is also required. The position
is available for minimum term of two years, with the possibility of
funding for a third year.
