Postdoctoral
Fellowship
Spatial Analysis of Linked Social-Ecological Systems
The University of New England
Armidale NSW
Position No: 202/142a
Salary: $46,429
to $49,857 per annum (Level A, Base +5 to Base +7)
plus up to 17% employer superannuation and salary packaging
The University
of New England, as Australias first oldest regional university,
has a long
history of excellence in research across many major fields of study.
The Vice-Chancellor
has initiated a series of Postdoctoral Fellows to support the Universitys
research priorities. Each of the Fellows appointed will be joining a
strong research group to which he or she will make a significant contribution.
This is the initial
round of Postdoctoral Fellowships. Postdoctoral Fellowships in other
key
areas will be advertised next year.
Each Fellowship
is supported by a $5,000 research fund and is available for a fixed
term
period of 3 years.
The proposed postdoctoral
fellow will build on the developing work of the Institute for Rural
Futures in understanding and synthesising the combinatorial complexities
of ecological and social functions that operate across landscapes at
different scales, leading to design of improved systems of resource
governance and citizen and community representation.
This is a specialised
area of research requiring the applicant to demonstrate knowledge and
experience across several theoretical and disciplinary research areas
relevant to spatial analysis and GIS, but with particular strengths
in: Design, application and analysis of spatially even social surveys;
Digital mapping and analysis of community attributes to build social
surfaces of non-metropolitan regional Australia; Ecological regionalisation
techniques and integration of social spatial data; and Spatial statistics
in GIS and in spatial modelling techniques.
It would be advantageous
if the prospective Postdoctoral Fellow also possesses an ability
and willingness to collaborate and build future collaborative projects
and seek funding; have
an understanding of the environmental, social and economic pressures
of change facing rural Australia; and have the potential to contribute
to further design principles for processes and evaluation of alternative
landscape futures and redesign.
