Postdoctoral Fellowship
Epidemiological Modelling
The University of New England
Armidale NSW
Position No: 202/141

Salary: $46,429 to $49,857 per annum (Level A, Base +5 to Base +7)
plus up to 17% employer superannuation and salary packaging

The University of New England, as Australia’s first oldest regional university, has a long
history of excellence in research across many major fields of study.

The Vice-Chancellor has initiated a series of Postdoctoral Fellows to support the University’s research priorities. Each of the Fellows appointed will be joining a strong research group to which he or she will make a significant contribution.

This is the initial round of Postdoctoral Fellowships. Postdoctoral Fellowships in other key
areas will be advertised next year.

Each Fellowship is supported by a $5,000 research fund and is available for a fixed term
period of 3 years.

We are seeking a person with strong mathematical and analytical skills to work on
epidemiological aspects of a number of key diseases of livestock including gastrointestinal
nematodiasis in sheep, and Marek’s disease, necrotic enteritis and cannibalism in chickens.
The Fellow will join an active group of researchers and research students within the Faculty
of the Sciences and will become involved in well-resourced existing research projects. The
Fellow is to provide analytical support and will take a leading role in the development of
functional epidemiological models for aspects of some of the diseases we are working on.
Some research funding will come with the position so there will be the opportunity to pursue independent interests to some extent as well. Over the duration of the Fellowship the Fellow will be encouraged to apply for external research grants and develop a career at the UNE beyond the term of the Fellowship. The research group with which the Fellow will be involved has strong external links to private companies and other research institutions including the nearby CSIRO F D McMaster Laboratory.

Applicants should have completed a PhD within the last 5 years and have strong analytical
and modelling skills. They may have a background in epidemiology, biometry, veterinary
science or agricultural science but we are willing to consider applicants from any disciplinary background.
