Post-Doctoral
Fellow in Statistical Genetics.
Department of Biology
University College London
(three positions)
We are looking to
fill a three year Wellcome Trust funded Post-Doc position starting from
October 2002 at the earliest.
The starting salary
will be between approximately 23,000-25,000£/year plus 2138£/year
London allowance.
The project is centered
on population genetics of common diseases and variable drug response
and will involve close collaboration on experimental and clinical projects.
In particular, we are investigating how genetic variants involved in
common clinical phenotypes and pharmacogenetics can be identified in
association studies. The succesful candidate will work on the development
and implementation of statistical methods and
computational tools for population genetics and bioinformatics. The
project offers the opportunity to work on a variety of different, predominantly
data-oriented, projects and there is ample scope for applied statistical
work on biomedical data.
No prior knowledge
of population genetics is necessary and the project would ideally suit
recent PhDs with a background in the physical, mathematical or engineering
sciences, who are looking for a career change into biomedical research.
A good grasp of modern computational techniques is essential with preference
given to applicants who have experience in programming in C, C++ or
Java and Perl. We have our own workstation
cluster and experience with the Linux operating system would be an advantage.
The Department of
Biology has recently been very successful in obtaining several large
grants and houses a number of very competitive, experimental and theoretical
research groups. Moreover, there are ample opportunities to collaborate
with other departments within University College London.
