The appointee will be responsible for teaching at Foundation and Degree levels; tutoring and running laboratory sessions for distance and flexible learning courses as appropriate; assisting in academic counselling and enrolment of students; developing a research programme; and other duties as required. While working in isolation from the main campus at Laucala in Suva, the appointee may be asked on occasion to teach in other University Centres in the region.

For appointment at the Assistant Lecturer level, applicants must have completed or almost completed a relevant Masters degree. For appointment at the Lecturer level, applicants must have a PhD in an appropriate area of study; or a relevant Masters degree with a good publication record and proven tertiary teaching experience. Preference will be given to applicants holding formal teaching qualifications and with the ability to teach in at least two of the identified subject areas. Knowledge and experience of teaching in Tonga will be a distinct advantage.

Appointment at the Assistant Lecturer level will normally be made only to citizens of the USP member countries.

The position is available for a period of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement. Salary range: Lecturer T$31,396 to T$41,311 pa; Assistant Lecturer: T$24,787 to T$29,744 pa; (inclusive of 15% gratuity). In addition to the above benefits, the University contributes 10% of salary to an approved superannuation scheme, provides airfare and relocation costs where appropriate and substantially subsidises housing for eligible candidates.
