The School of Education
in the Faculty of Education, Health and Professional Studies seeks
to appoint a Level B/C/D academic to join its Mathematics Education
team commencing
January 2003.
This team has responsibilities
in the Faculty's initial teacher education and postgraduate
programs in the areas of education and learning in mathematics curriculum
as well as
enrichment mathematics for teachers. The team also conducts individual
and collaborative
research and consultancy in areas such as web-assisted learning, cognition
and concept
development, curriculum development, application of information technology
to the teaching
and learning of mathematics and the preparation of reflective practitioners.
As a member of
the Mathematics Education Team, the appointee will be required to teach
in one or more of
its areas of responsibility at both Primary and Secondary level in addition
to undertaking
postgraduate supervision. The appointee will also be expected and encouraged
to undertake
research and consultancy in a relevant area of expertise, and would
be invited to work in the
Centre for Cognition Research in Learning and Teaching.
The successful
applicant will have a teaching qualification and adequate experience
in
teaching in primary and/or, secondary grades and a postgraduate research
qualification.
Demonstrated successful experience in teaching at the tertiary level
is essential. Level B
appointments will have an emerging research record, as well as a demonstrated
knowledge
base of learning and teaching of school mathematics.
The successful
applicant will be able to contribute to the design and upgrading of
courses/units within the areas covered by the mathematics team, will
be able to provide
input to general learning and teaching units and will have demonstrated
ability to collaborate
with, and provide leadership for, the teaching profession and will be
able to undertake
postgraduate supervision. Applicants for Level C positions will have
a PhD in a relevant area,
and will have a record of refereed publications. Applicants for Level
D positions will have a
PhD and an established research profile with demonstrated success in
attracting competitive
research grants in a relevant area.
The appointee will
be expected to lecture, workshop, tutor, mark, supervise appropriate
higher degrees and perform administrative tasks, attend School and Faculty
meetings,
produce teaching materials, as well as contributing to the research
of the School.

Salary: $52,448
to $62,160 per annum (Level B); $64,101 to $73,814 per annum (Level
C);
$77,050 to $84,818 per annum (Level D) plus up to 17% employer superannuation
and salary packaging.
