Applications are invited for the above position in the School of Science to commence as soon as possible. The appointee should possess a PhD, a proven research record or demonstrated research potential and have tertiary teaching experience. The appointee should be able to teach a wide range of undergraduate subjects (including introductory calculus and mathematical methods for scientists) as well some more advanced topics which have scientific applications. The ability to teach introductory statistics would be an advantage. Applicants will be expected to carry out research in an area of mathematics, with applications to the physical or biological sciences. Some teaching on the Logan campus (which is 30 minutes from the Nathan campus) may be required.

Annual Salary : Lecturer : $30,520 to $36,243 per annum (proportionate basis). (Salary package including 17% employer superannuation contribution: $35,708 to $42,404 per annum, proportionate basis).

Selection Criteria
Essential

  1. PhD or equivalent in mathematics or a closely related area.
  2. Successful mathematics teaching experience at tertiary level as evidenced by student and/or peer review evaluations or other means.
  3. Ability to teach a range of undergraduate subjects (including introductory calculus and mathematical methods for scientists) as well as some more advanced topics which have scientific applications.
  4. A proven research record or demonstrated research potential in an area of mathematics (preferably with applications in the physical or biological sciences).
  5. Excellent communication skills including the ability to relate mathematics content to scientific applications.

Desirable

  1. Evidence of ability or potential to attract external research grants.
  2. Experience of mathematical computing packages and their use in undergraduate teaching.
  3. Experience in flexible learning practices, including the design and running of World Wide Web based subjects.
  4. Ability to teach large undergraduate classes effectively.
  5. Ability to teach introductory statistics.
