Qld Aquatic Ecology / Applied Mathematics
CSIRO Land & Water
Brisbane
3 Positions

CSIRO Land and Water is a national organisation conducting R & D into most aspects of soil, water and environmental science. The integration of biophysical information with societal requirements and economic constraints provide for contribution to policy development. We have laboratories across Australia in Adelaide, Canberra, Griffith, Townsville, Perth, Brisbane, Albury and Atherton.

You will become a key member of a multi-disciplinary program, which undertakes research across the environment from source to sea covering urban and rural issues. Our focus is conducting biophysical and ecological research, to understand the function of the Australian environment and apply this knowledge to its improved management. We aim to strike a balance between systems-level landscape integration and specific studies on components of the environment.

You will have the opportunity to collaborate with world class geomorphologists, micrometeorologists, soil scientists, hydrodynamicists, spatial and aquatic systems modellers. Our Waterway Management and Landscape Function Organisation is seeking to further develop our research group in Brisbane into a quantitative process-based aquatic ecology group.

The group is focussed on biomanipulation of food webs in freshwater storages and has expertise in a range of aquatic ecology areas. We are seeking a Research Group Leader and two junior scientists. The group will be selected to complement other aquatic ecology groups across Australia. In seeking an applied mathematician as either Group Leader or as a more junior scientist our intention is to develop a group that takes a mathematical and experimental approach to aquatic systems science focussed on ecology. The Leader will play a role in selection of the junior scientists.

In addressing the selection criteria in your application, please pay some attention to identifying your strengths as an aquatic ecologist/chemist. Some emphasis should be placed on the quantitative aspects of your research. You should also provide an indication of your research priorities and the techniques required to meet them.

Please send written applications addressing the duty statement and selection criteria, including curriculum vitae, telephone contact number, the names of at least three referees (including their fax numbers and/or their e-mail addresses), and quoting the relevant reference number above to:
