Traffic Algorithm Development Manager
Traffic Management Centre
Roads and Traffic Authority
Sydney NSW

  • Permanent position with the RTA's Traffic Management Centre.
Cutting edge of real time traffic management technologies.

Description:
Our client is the Roads & Traffic Authority of NSW. The Traffic Management Centre [TMC] is based at Eveleigh and is an advanced communications/control centre for the management of traffic throughout Sydney.

Our client is keen to engage two lateral and creative thinkers to assist it with the management of Sydney’s traffic issues. You will work with the team at the Traffic Management Centre in developing the capacity of that Centre to better predict, and cater for, real - time traffic issues.

One will work on off-line micro simulations of traffic situations that can be used to provide performance audits of the SCATS. With the full commissioning of the new SCATS 7, the emphasis will shift to analytical modelling of real time traffic issues for matters such as fuel consumption, travel times and congestion points. The aim is to integrate such modelling
back into SCATS so predicted situations can be factored into the system’s performance. The other person will work on enhanced traffic control strategies involving development of new and improved algorithms for SCATS. This includes identifying and evaluating emerging technologies for improved traffic control.

The position are:

Traffic Algorithm Development Manager Job number 1893/02

This Position is an ongoing one and attracts a package of approximately $83K.

To be successful, you will need to be tertiary qualified - in engineering, science and/or IT - and demonstrate a deep understanding of the engineering principles associated with traffic management. A good understanding of computer programming and software is desirable but not essential as other team members can provide the production code data. Both
positions are expected to provide the intellectual thrust for the conceptualisation of solutions to traffic issues and give overall guidance to the staff involved with the analysis.
