Duties:
The Defence Signals Directorate is seeking highly motivated IT professionals
to join its Information Security Group to deliver IT security services
to Government. With the increased demand for on-line access to information
and services, there is a parallel requirement to manage the associated
IT security risk. Consequently, the Information Security Group provides
a stimulating and challenging work environment in a growing, dynamic
field, with excellent training and development opportunities.
The Information
Security Group is offering a diverse range of career opportunities in
areas as:
- Threat assessment
& vulnerability analysis IT security incident response;
- Product evaluation
and certification;
- Cryptographic
services; and
- Network security
accreditation.
Previous experience
in an Information Security role is an advantage, but not mandatory.
Duty Statement:
As a team member, contribute to:
- detailed analysis
and reporting on security vulnerabilities in computer and network
systems to determine the impact on Government systems;
- development of
national information security policy, doctrine and guidance; and/or
other IT security work requiring technical skills, the use of information
technology methods and techniques.
- Liaise with Commonwealth
Government agencies and/or Industry on information security issues,
including the provision of technical advice.
- Maintain a high
level of professional knowledge and experience on relevant aspects
of computer science, communication technology, information security
and/or cryptography.
Selection Criteria:
- Demonstrated
technical competence with a sound knowledge of current computer and
communications trends and technologies.
- Proven computing
experience preferably including systems programming and communications.
- Experience in
programming with a range of high and low level languages, as well
as some hardware exposure.
- Ability to research
information security vulnerabilities and exploits, and to develop
appropriate and effective defence mechanisms.
- Experience in
contemporary information security practices is an advantage, but not
essential.
- Proven ability
to apply innovative analytical problem solving skills to technical
problems requiring resolution.
- Strong liaison
skills and experience in preparing technical documentation and/or
analytical reports.
- Suitability to
work in a high security Intelligence environment. (Note: This will
be determined by assessment. There is no requirement for applicants
to provide written statements in relation to this criterion.)
Eligibility/Other
Requirements:
An Associate Diploma or higher qualification in Computing/Information
Science and/or significant relevant work experience.
Note: There are
three assessment barriers within the Band. The commencing salary for
this vacancy is between $38,317-$41,604 or $46,160-$53,024 and commensurate
with the applicant's skills, experience and subject matter expertise.
A formal assessment process determines progression beyond this level.
