Key Duties:
- As a member of
a multi-disciplinary team including biodiverstiy, coastal, planning/development
assessment and cultural heritage officers, provide
high level biodiversity advice on the development of planning schemes,
planning policies and regional planning, and assess development application
referred to the Agency under the referral coordination provisions
of the Integrated Planning Act 1997
- Provide high
level advice to property owners, local authorities, government agencies
and the development industry to ensure compliance with the legislative
provisions.
- As part of project
team analyse digital ecosystem mapping (provided by the Queensland
Herbarium and other suitable sources) and other relevant data (flora,
fauna, landscape values) to define and map biodiversity values across
the landscape using a bioregional framework.
- Contribute to
the development and refinement of methods and decision support tools
for identifying and mapping biodiversity values.
- Collate key data
layers required for the assessment of biodiversity values, including
fauna and flora data and information about landscape values.
- Determine gaps
in available data and information and identify strategies required
to address deficiencies.
- Develop, in conjunction
with project team, strategies and recommendations promoting the sustaining
of biodiversity values in the landscape.
- Support senior
staff in making technical presentations including training to Agency
staff as well as external groups such as officers from other departments,
local government and sectoral groups.
Selection Criteria:
- Demonstrated
ability to participate and support others in a multi-disciplinary
team to ensure delivery of products and services in an environment
conducive to high individual performance, teamwork and ethical behaviour
and decision-making.
- Sound knowledge
of or ability to rapidly acquire a sound knowledge of biodiversity
planning methods and principles, the bioregional framework established
for Queensland, and the data and information required for assessing
biodiversity values in the landscape.
- Ability to successfully
implement change and continuous improvement in the work environment.
- Demonstrated
analytical problem-solving and research skills in complex issues and
in developing policies, strategies and options to address those issues.
- Demonstrated
communication, consultation, project management, negotiation, liaison
and creative problem-solving skills and to develop policy and provide
advice.
