The Energy and Environment
Division's activities are aimed at improving the international competitiveness
of the Australian energy sector, opening up international markets for
energy commodities, technologies and services, and reducing environmental
impacts of energy production, delivery and use. The Division also has
responsibility for co-ordinating the portfolio's broader environment
and climate change policy agendas.
The vacant position
is located in the Industry Analysis Section. The Industry Analysis Section
is specifically concerned with the understanding of possible impacts
arising from Australia's national and international greenhouse policy,
with a particular focus on the implications of such policy for Australian
industry and trade. The Section also reviews and participates in the
development of Australia's National Greenhouse Gas Inventory and emissions
projections in conjunction with the Australian Greenhouse Office.
The occupant of
the position can expect to participate in, or take responsibility for,
the carrying out of analysis of greenhouse policy responses to a broad
range of issues described above with particular emphasis on the implications
for Australian industry. In addition, the occupant will be called upon
to assist in co-ordination tasks arising from portfolio involvement
in domestic greenhouse response management arrangements as required.
The applicant will
require well developed skills in communication; research and analysis
and problem solving. Tertiary qualifications are desirable.
