AGSO's Cities Project undertakes applied research aimed at mitigating
the risks posed to Australia's urban communities by a wide range of
natural hazards. The project is seeking an individual to join a dynamic
team that is producing multi-hazard risk assessments for major Australian
urban areas.
The successful applicant
will work with a team of scientists and engineers to develop computational
models/programs for assessing natural hazard risk. He/she will advance
methodologies via the application of numerical skills including probability
theory, programming and modelling. Areas of interest include the likelihood
and severity of geohazard phenomena such as earthquakes, landslides
and severe storms, the community's vulnerability to these hazards and
the social and economic costs. A commitment to work as a member of a
dedicated multi-disciplinary team is essential.
