The
Exploratory Data Analyst (Data Miner) will use exploratory data analysis
techniques to identify patterns in scientific data held in the Australian
Antarctic Data Centre and elsewhere. The position is statistical in
nature, but with an equal emphasis on the exploratory and confirmatory
aspects. The Data Miner will require a high-level of familiarity and
skill with hypothesis generating techniques. An important quality required
of the position is advanced skills in communicating with data custodians
and scientists that may not necessarily have quantitative or statistical
backgrounds.
The
Data Miner will be expected to have advanced skills in statistical tools.
The successful applicant will have a PhD or equivalent qualification,
scientific research ability and a breadth and depth of scientific interests
and the potential to vary those scientific interests. Other mandatory
and job-specific criteria apply.
The
estimated period of engagement in this non-ongoing task is three years.
