The Australian Research
Council (ARC) is the prestigious, national agency that works with the
broad research community to support the advancement of knowledge and
contribute to national innovation. The Commonwealth Government recently
increased the ARC's funding by $736.4m over five years. The Chair of
the ARC is Professor Vicki Sara.
The appointment
of the Mathematics, Information and Communication Sciences Programme
Manager represents an exciting opportunity for an outstanding researcher
to take a research leadership position of international significance.
The person appointed will be responsible for identifying emerging disciplinary
and cross-disciplinary developments and innovative approaches to research.
Candidates must
be able to demonstrate national and international research leadership
in the broad discipline of Mathematics, Information and Communication
Sciences. Suitable backgrounds will include universities, CSIRO and
other public research agencies as well as industry. Personal drive and
integrity are essential as well as an ability to shape strategic thinking,
achieve results, cultivate productive working relationships and communicate
with influence.
This represents
a major opportunity to advance Australia's knowledge and capacity to
meet the challenges of the 21st Century. The contract and remuneration
package will be negotiated to attract candidates of the highest calibre.
