WORK
DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct research in areas relevant
to human-in-the-loop simulation such as Advanced Distributed Simulation,
Computer Generated Forces, Synthetic Environments, low cost simulation,
simulation effectiveness and visual databases.
PRESCRIBED
QUALIFICATIONS: A Degree of Doctor of Philosophy of an Australian tertiary
institution, or a comparable overseas qualification, which in the opinion
of the Secretary is appropriate to the duties of the office, or other
comparable qualifications and the Secretary is satisfied that the scientist
possesses, scientific research ability, scientific leadership, achievement
orientation, adaptability/flexibility skills and human relations skills.
DESIRABLE
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate or postgraduate qualifications in one or more
of the following disciplines: Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics,
Information Technology, Physics or the other Physical Sciences, Aeronautical/Aerospace,
Mechanical or Electronics/Electrical Engineering.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge and understanding of research methods and scientific or engineering
principles in areas relevant to human-in-the-loop simulation research.
Knowledge of at least one modern computer programming language such
as C and C++.
SKILLS
AND ABILITIES: Scientific research ability including the ability to
recognise the existence and nature of a research issue and to evaluate
the issue either in relation to science generally or in relation to
the needs of defence or industry. The ability to contribute to the development
of research objectives and implement appropriate strategies within a
research project. Ability with object oriented computer program analysis,
design and implementation.
