CSIRO's Image Analysis Group is a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers which works closely with Australian organisations on a range of challenging industrial projects, to extract quantitative information from complex digital images. These projects are used to motivate high quality research carried out by team members. We work in areas as diverse as microscopy, machine vision, stereovision, image motion and remote sensing. Many of our industrial projects require the automated and accurate extraction of features in images, which is necessary for the quantitative measurement of relevant characteristics of these features such as their size, shape, colour, texture and spatial relationships. We often also deliver prototype software to our industrial partners.

We are seeking to appoint a scientist who will increase our capacity to deliver such services to industry, now and in the future. The appointee will:

1. carry out applied image analysis research, in particular in the areas of modern image filtering and segmentation,
2. collaborate with industry and other CSIRO Divisions in the application of image analysis to practical problems.

The successful applicant will have a Ph.D or equivalent in a discipline requiring strong quantitative and software skills. A good knowledge of image processing and analysis techniques, especially of modern image filtering and segmentation, is essential. The ability to carry out applied image analysis research and to solve practical image analysis problems is also necessary. Good programming skills in C are highly desirable.

The position is available initially for a period of 3 years.
