RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide scientific leadership in a research program relating to the
control and management of radiated acoustic signatures for ships and
submarines. Under general direction as to the approach and with guidance
in terms of specific objectives, conduct research into technology and
instrumentation for self-noise monitoring of ships and submarines. In
addition, assist in the planning and conduct of submarine noise radiation
trials in support of acoustic signature management.
PRESCRIBED
QUALIFICATIONS: A degree of Doctor of Philosophy of an Australian tertiary
institution, or a comparable overseas qualification, which in the opinion
of the Secretary is appropriate to the duties of the office or other
comparable qualifications and the Secretary is satisfied that the scientist
possesses scientific research ability, scientific leadership, achievement
orientation, adaptability/flexibility skills and human relations skills.
DESIRABLE
QUALIFICATIONS: Aeronautical/Aerospace, Mechanical and Electronics/Electrical
Engineering, Mathematics, Naval Architecture or Physics.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge and understanding of research methods and scientific and engineering
principles in one or more of the following areas: acoustics, noise and
vibrations, statistical energy analysis, noise measurement and control,
machinery condition monitoring
This
is a security-designated position and the occupant must qualify for
a Defence Security clearance.
