Applications are invited for appointment to the position of Director, Centre for Education in Science and Mathematics. This Centre has been established to attract able students into the programs of education in science and mathematics at UNSW, to provide a focus within the University to assist the profession and the community to improve science and mathematics education and to attract research and consultancy funding for the development of excellence in science and mathematics education.

The Centre is a joint Centre of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Science. The Director will champion high quality science and mathematics teacher education programs at UNSW.

Applicants should have a strong research and teaching record in the field of education in science and/or mathematics achieved in a science/mathematics discipline or in the discipline of education. It is essential that applicants have a demonstrated commitment to fostering high level research and research training; demonstrated capacity to interact with professional societies, with schools and teachers, with policy makers and with the business community; and a capacity to generate external funding, as well as the ability to implement equity and diversity policies and programs.

An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant. The initial appointment as Director will be for a period of five years. The successful applicant may also be offered a substantive continuing or fixed term academic appointment as Professor or Associate Professor in one of the Schools of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences or the Faculty of Science. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment.
