Outstanding Academic Leadership Opportunity in New Zealand

The School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Waikato has a
prominent reputation for its leading edge research and teaching programmes. The
University now seeks an appropriately qualified and inspiring leader to head the academic
and administrative management of the School.

The School consists of three academic departments - Computer Science, Mathematics,
and Statistics - together with the Dean's Office which includes a Technical Support Group.
Enrolments are around 1220 of which 18% are international students.

The principal undergraduate qualifications are the four-year Bachelor of Computing and
Mathematical Sciences, the three-year Bachelor of Science, the Bachelor of Engineering
(in conjunction with the School of Science and Technology) and the Bachelor of
Computer Graphic Design (in conjunction with the Wanganui Polytechnic). Advanced
degrees include the BSc(Hons), two Masters degrees, and the PhD. One year diploma
programmes provide further options.

Staff in the School have been very successful in attracting external research contracts and
there is a strong and active research culture.

The School has around 50 academic staff and is housed in a modern building which
includes staff offices and research laboratories. Well equipped undergraduate computer
laboratories are located in an adjacent building. Further information about the School is

Candidates will need to be senior academics with a PhD in a relevant field and a
distinguished international research record. They will have proven leadership and
management experience with the ability to inspire excellence in teaching and research.
Equally importantly they will possess the vision and enthusiasm to enjoy meeting the
challenges of maintaining and enhancing the School's pre-eminent position and
relationships. High levels of academic credibility, strategic planning ability and integrity
are essential.
