The Australian Centre for Commercial Mathematics (ACCM) is a centre in UNSW School of Mathematics & Statistics. The ACCM is the only centre of its kind in Australia and is conducting projects with industry to solve complex problems using advanced mathematics and statistics. The Centre is seeking to appoint a talented individual with experience in statistical, mathematical or engineering consulting to private industry or government to join its team. This is an exceptional opportunity to be involved in projects across a range of industries including; transport, nuclear engineering, mining, aviation, defence, finance, medical device manufacturing and health.
To be considered for the position, you should have a minimum Masters or PhD in Statistics or Applied Mathematics, Operations Research or equivalent qualification in a quantitative field such as mathematics or engineering; proven capacity to provide mathematical, statistical or engineering consulting to private industry or government on medium to large-scale projects; strong computational skill; demonstrated project management and strong analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and excellent time management skills; demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a multi-disciplinary team environment and liaise with associates of diverse background; excellent oral and written communication skills suitable to the Australian business environment.
Projects managed by the ACCM have strong research value in terms of novel applications of mathematics, and most importantly, commercial value to our clients. As such it is of key importance that the successful candidate possesses the flexibility and self-direction to work to commercial deadlines whilst enjoying the benefits of working in a University environment.
This is a full time position, fixed term for up to 2 years.
