UWA is seeking to appoint a Professor of Applied Mathematics in the School of Mathematics and Statistics within the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics.

The School of Mathematics and Statistics has expertise in continuum mechanics, dynamical systems and complex systems, and is seeking an academic leader in an area of classical applied mathematics or theoretical mechanics which builds upon these strengths. 

We are seeking to explore opportunities for research with both Australian and overseas industries in a broad range of areas including mineral detection and processing, oil extraction, geoprospecting, and medical technology, contributing towards the Faculty's research focus of Engineering for Remote Operations (ERO).

ERO provides an integrated approach to solving the challenges in resources development, agriculture, health, transport, energy, water supply and communities producing graduates that meet the needs of industry and make a valuable contribution to society.

This Professorial position will play a key leadership role in the School of Mathematics and Statistics. The successful candidate will work with an established team of dedicated and innovative teaching and research staff, harnessing the benefits of a multidisciplinary approach, to provide pathways to incorporate mathematics and statistics into undergraduate and postgraduate studies and research.

With strong leadership capabilities, the Professor of Applied Mathematics will identify opportunities for synergies across the Faculty and in collaboration with industry and government. Demonstrating distinguished and innovative contributions to the advancement of teaching and learning incorporating research, scholarship and professional practice, the appointee will work to ensure UWA produces graduates and research that meet the needs of industry and make valuable contributions to society.

An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated including:

  • Professorial salary,
  • 17% employer superannuation,
  • Recreation leave of 20 days per annum,
  • Long service leave of 13 weeks every 10 years,
  • Eligibility for sabbatical leave
  • Relocation assistance including airfares for the appointee and dependants.

Funding is available for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position and start-up funds for specialist equipment and travel to support the continued development of applied mathematics at UWA.
