Applications are sought for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in Smooth Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems at UNSW Australia’s School of Mathematics and Statistics. Although an experience in both Smooth Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems is preferred, all candidates with strong qualifications in Dynamical Systems and related fields of research are encouraged to apply and will be carefully considered.

This position is funded by an Australian Research Council Discovery Project Grant. The successful applicant will play a leading role within a collaborative research team led by Professor Gary Froyland including researchers from:

  • the School of Mathematics and Statistics, UNSW;
  • the Schools of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Victoria, Canada; Technical University Munich and University of Paderborn, Germany;
  • the Climate Change Research Centre, UNSW.
  • Travel support is available for the position and no teaching duty is required. Applicants should have a PhD degree or be close to completing one.

The position will be at UNSW, initially for a fixed-term of 2 years, but will likely be extended for a further period subject to availability of funding. The position is available for an immediate start.

The core of this project is the development of an ergodic-theoretic framework for non-autonomous or driven dynamical systems, focusing on differentiable and measurable analysis methods for time-dependent systems on finite and infinite time horizons. These new techniques will ultimately be implemented and applied to dynamical systems models of the ocean and atmosphere. In collaboration with the research team members, it is expected that the Postdoctoral Fellow will publish in leading international journals.
