The School of Mathematical Sciences comprises the disciplines of Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and Statistics and is responsible for teaching the Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences and the Bachelor of Mathematical and Computer Sciences degree programs, as well as providing high quality service teaching into other degree programs offered by the University. The School provides an active and vibrant research environment and is internationally known for its research across all three of its disciplines.

Within Applied Mathematics, the School has particular strengths in stochastic modelling and applied probability, and theoretical and applied mechanics. We are seeking an outstanding individual who will join our School to support its program of teaching and research in Applied Mathematics.

You should have:

  • A PhD, or equivalent, in an area of Applied Mathematics, or a related field;
  • Demonstrated research ability that supports the School's research interests in Applied Mathematics;
  • Demonstrated record of research achievements, as evidenced by some of the following: published work in highly rated and high-calibre journals or leading international conferences, success in attracting externally funded research grants;
  • Ability to teach effectively at all levels, including lecturing large classes;
  • Interest in students, and an ability to motivate them.

Desirable characteristics include a record of research achievement in an area of theoretical and applied mechanics; an ability to attract funded research projects to the School; and an ability to attract honours and postgraduate students to the School.

Salary: (Level B) $83,620 - $99,300 per annum

Superannuation: Plus an employer superannuation contribution of 17% applies.

Term of Position: This fixed-term position is available from January, 2014 to July 2016.
