About the Mathematical Sciences School

QUT's Mathematical Sciences School (MSS) is one of six schools in the Science and Engineering Faculty. The School is a highly-collaborative group with a focus on cross-disciplinary research of high quality and impact, to solve real-world problems of global importance. Research in the mathematical sciences crosses discipline boundaries to provide innovative solutions for the QUT research community. Our researchers work in a broad range of areas, but are organised in the disciplines of Applied & Computational Mathematics, Decision Science, and Statistical Science and is responsible for teaching the Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences, as well as providing high quality service teaching into other degree programs offered by QUT.

In the 2012 ERA Ranking, the School received a rating of 4 in the two digit level field of research for mathematical sciences, being ranked equal 4th in Australia. The School aims to become a national leader in mathematical sciences research and holds an outstanding record in terms of ARC grant success and industry involvement. The theme of modelling, simulation and e-Research in the new Institute of Future Environments (IFE) in the state-of-the-art $230 million Science and Engineering Centre provides a focus for research activities. The School is closely aligned with the research goals of the IFE and strengthens QUT's real-world positioning through better partnerships across internal and external boundaries.
