An interesting and challenging opportunity exists in the Biostatistics Group of
the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre, within the Faculty of Medicine. The
Biostatistics Group provides statistical expertise for a number of major
national and international clinical trials addressing important research
questions in cardiovascular disease and oncology, as well as undertaking
statistical analyses on existing databases from large-scale clinical trials. We
are seeking one or more individuals with an understanding of statistical
analysis to work as statistical programmers or biostatisticians in
collaboration with the Centre’s senior researchers.

For appointment to Level 6, the successful applicant will have excellent
computing skills, with a strong SAS background, including the use of Data
Step manipulations, Macros and the use of statistical analysis procedures.
An understanding of standard statistical analysis methods will be required,
along with program design skills, and the ability to take independent
responsibility for checking data consistency. Excellent time management
and organisational skills are required, together with the ability to prioritise
work effectively to meet deadlines. The successful applicant will have a
relevant degree in statistics and/or computing, and will be able to work both
independently and cooperatively as part of a team.

For appointment to Levels 7 or 8, the successful candidate will additionally
require the ability to take on a more independent role in undertaking
biostatistical responsibilities. Excellent verbal communication and report
writing skills will be needed, as well as demonstrated problem solving skills.
The candidate will be required to take responsibility and accountability for the
accuracy, completeness, timeliness and quality of biostatistical work
produced both individually and in conjunction with other biostatisticians.
Appointment at higher levels will require the ability to promote the transfer of
ideas and skills throughout the biostatistical team to ensure the continued
development of the skills of the team, as well as the ability to liaise effectively
with internal and external personnel at all levels. A post-graduate degree in
statistics at the Masters or PhD level will be required.

The positions are full-time fixed term for one year, subject to the completion
of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. There is the possibility
of further offers of employment subject to funding and need.

Remuneration Package: $50,898 - $$70,557 p.a. (which includes a base
salary Level 6 $43,010 - $46,388 p.a., a base salary Level 7 $47,233 -
$51,457 p.a., a base salary Level 8 $52,865 - $59,622 p.a., leave loading and
up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation)
